Tennis elbow

Acupuncture can relieve pain, improve function and increase strength in the arm in the case of tennis elbow

A trial was carried out on 55 patients with chronic tennis elbow, 23 of which were treated with real acupuncture, and 22 received sham acupuncture.  They all had 2 treatments a week for 5 weeks.  At 2 weeks and 2 months after the end of treatment, both groups were assessed.  There were significant reductions in pain intensity and improvements in the function and strength of the arm in both treatments.  At 2 weeks, all these differences were significantly greater in the real acupuncture group, and at 2 months, the function of the arm was still better in this group.
